Restoration to shine new light in Symphony Hall

Filed under: News — Admin @ 12:24 pm

Daylight will cascade into Symphony Hall this fall for the first time for audiences since the 1940s, splashing from 14 half-moon windows that had been covered since the air raid scares of World War II.

Workmen pried off half of the 8-foot-wide wooden shutters yesterday, allowing sunlight to shine onto the maple floor, velvet railings, and faux leather-backed seats of what is considered one of the top three concert halls in the world.

“I think it’s going to bring a whole new light into the hall,” said C. Mark Cataudella, the director of facilities, as he stood on scaffolding near the roof of the red brick building. “It’s going to accent details that aren’t easily seen.”

The restoration will replace the grimy, century-old windows with double-paned laminate glass that is designed to be flexible enough to move with the music.

The work is part of an $800,000 lighting project that will also illuminate the 16 statues of Demosthenes and other Greek luminaries that stand sentry over the ornate, 62-foot-high hall.

Allowing natural light to pour through the clerestory windows may seem long overdue.

The threat of a bombing run over Boston faded six decades ago, but no one wanted to tinker hastily with the venerable 108-year-old space.

“Everything we do in the building is really critically analyzed acoustically,” Cataudella said. “We don’t want to change a thing.”

These Cameron Diaz Shoes Are Waiting For You

Filed under: News — Admin @ 12:10 pm

Wedges usually are not my favorite kind of shoe because they can be a little clumsy looking.I have skinny legs and narrow feet and that is not the best combo for wedges. However, when I laid eyes on these shoes by BCBG I changed my mind.

You will love that these shoes are the right size and extremely attractive.

This design is not too bulky in my opinion! Also, what further encouraged was to see Cameron Diaz wearing a very similar type of wedge! I am sure Cameron Diaz designer wedges are more expensive than BCBG, but they are very similar.

The only color that this shoe comes in is black. The material is leather so you know black on leather is always hot! The inside of the shoe is rather soft. It has a unique grained criss cross leather exterior. One of the things that I liked about the peep hole is that it is a little different from other peep hole designs.

BCBG has done something a little bit creative with the peep toe. The peep toe hole is squared rather than rounded. I don’t really keep up with shoe designs, but I don’t often see sqaure peep toes.

Another little cool feature that spices this shoe up just a little bit is that is has a little gold tone logo on the back of the shoe. Don’t worry this is a really discreet touch on the shoe. However, it does add a little bit of flair to the shoe.

The overall design of these shoes are simple so BCBG did not want to do anything that would over power this pair of wedges.

The lining and the insole of the shoe is leather as well, so this is a really quality shoe! The wicker heel is so nice! I just absolutely love the contrasts of the wicker basket look of the heel. I am glad they made this decision instead of going with black on the heel! It really just makes the shoe stand out even more; Great choice BCBG.

These Cameron Diaz look-a-like wedges used to retail for $220.00. The good news is that bluefly.com now sells them for $126.00! That is an amazing 40% discount! The sizes come in 5.5, 6, 7 and 8. If you need some new wedges these can be yours.

Here is another tip to help you gain Cameron Diaz look; wear slim jeans with these wedges and a cowl neck top.

Weezer Red Album Review

Filed under: Review — Admin @ 9:40 am

Weezer had just released their sixth album and this is the third self-titled Weezer album. This album feels so out of the box, especially for personel contribution. In this album, Rivers Cuomo is no longer the lead singer and song writer. The other three members also contributed some of their song and had a chance of becoming the lead singer.

How it did turn out? Well, it’s not that dissapointing. Brian Bell song the Thought I Knew, Scott Shriner sang Cold Dark World and Patrick Wilson sang Automatic. Their vocals aren’t bad at all. At least they won’t have to make you shut yours ears or something.

This kind of singing makes this Weezer album unique, and less boring. You won’t be stuffed by Cuomo’s falcetto way of singing.

Singles worth to be heard are:

  • Troublemaker
  • The Greatest Man That Ever Lived
  • Pork and Beans
  • Everybody Get Dangerous

I really recommend this album, grab your CD right away.

I Can’t Get Them Out From My Head

Filed under: Review — Admin @ 9:33 am

Coldplay had just released their fourth album, Viva La Vida. But I’ve been hearing their new single since the first time I received a newsletter which said that I could download the single Violet Hill. Like I mentioned earlier, they’re freaking great, and now Viva La Vida is stuck in my head.

The single Viva La Vida is truly awesome, I first heard it at Youtube when a clip of them were playing at the MTV Movie Awards. At first hearing is the moment I feel in love with this single. With only a constant beat drum, organ opening the music really brings Chris’ sound quality. This prove how good he is at singing and how good the band really are.

Because the song is good and kind of easy to be play accousticly, I continued my search about this song, and here’s what I found.

Coldplay - Viva La Vida (acoustic) on iTunes

Coldplay - Viva La Vida (acoustic) on iTunes

They called themselves Boyceavenue, they’re kind of Youtube artist that sings most of famous songs. They’re VERY good, especially the singer who plays guitar, beating a bass drum while SINGING!! I couldn’t believe myself but this guy is awesome! And they’re singing it like the original thing.. Salute for those guys.

Unlike other single in the album, Viva La Vida is probably the most “Coldplay” of them all. The old Coldplay we used to know sings love songs and positive kind of songs that are great. The single Viva La Vida is the less song that feels like U2, hehe.. If you really don’t know where Bono is hidden in this album you should try listening to Lovers in Japan.

Coldplay Return to The Top of Album Charts

Filed under: News — Admin @ 9:14 am

Coldplay once again return to the top of album charts in UK after being ousted for a week. THe band’s new album has been knocked from the UK’s top charts for five weeks by Basshunter’s Now You’re Gone last week.

Here’s BBC official news said:

The stadium band’s reign at number one had been interrupted last week by dance act Basshunter, who fall to number three in the new chart.

Number two in the countdown is Abba compilation Gold - Greatest Hits, first released in 1992 and enjoying renewed success thanks to the film Mamma Mia!

Dizzee Rascal’s Dance Wiv Me tops a largely-unchanged singles chart.

The Londoner has now been at number one for four weeks.

Welsh singer Duffy remains at number four in the album chart with Rockferry, with Sharleen Spiteri’s Melody at five and Ting Tings’ We Started Nothing at number six.

Irish group The Bachelors return to the album top 10 for the first time since 1969 with I Believe - The Very Best of The Bachelors.

Founded in Dublin in the late 1950s as The Harmonichords, they first had success in 1963 with the single Charmaine, while Diane reached number one in the UK the following year. Original members Con and Dec Cluskey continue to tour.

Primal Scream’s new album Beautiful Future enters the chart at number nine.

This band is invincble with their newest album IMHO..
